Excel: =TRIM(CLEAN(SUBSTITUTE(A1,CHAR(160)," ")))

Quite often the issue is a non-breaking space - CHAR(160) - especially from Web text sources -that CLEAN can't remove, so I would go a step further than this and try a formula like this which replaces any non-breaking spaces with a standard one
=TRIM(CLEAN(SUBSTITUTE(A1,CHAR(160)," ")))
Ron de Bruin has an excellent post on tips for cleaning data here
You can also remove the CHAR(160) directly without a workaround formula by
  • Edit .... Replace your selected data,
  • in Find What hold ALT and type 0160 using the numeric keypad
  • Leave Replace With as blank and select Replace All

Google: Play Music: Can it be on iOS that I cannot select an entire compilation album (various artists) to play in its entirety and correct order?

Update: Short term solution is to search in library for the title of the compilation and then select more songs on the right side and start to play the first. But the order of the tracks is not correct. Not fun though. G
iving up, switching to Spotify Free going late night jazz...

Just uploaded another 2 CD compilation and started to play on chrome after upload.

Listen now, suggests this entire new album for me to listen. Great.

But then I want to switch over to the iPad Mini and I fail miserably!! The listen now only contains the 42 individual songs listed with each artist and if I go library and select album I see 42 individual songs with different artists??????

What am I doing wrong?

Easy right, works out of the box. nope.

Google Rant #2: I sure hope that google+ shares the same fate as ... what was the name of the tool they decided to shut down?

We live in the today and today is 2014 but we're still being trapped in a loop. We have seen and had almost everything back in the day. There seems to be only marginal improvements in tech. Most mundane tasks are still the same and the world only seems more complex and feature driven, hailing every new not really major breakthrough as the holy grail.

Today was the announcement that google maps gets some advanced features, that all my old world tech had for some years. Most often I don't use it and when I want to use it it fails me, such as when I took the wrong lane and had to drive for 30 minutes more just because of the lane information not up to date. If I only would have used my brain, not trying to make the tech work for me.

About 20 years back I was typing on some solaris machine with a text editor that was more capable than blogger.com today. (There is no real wysiwyg ;().

And I was really fast, most of the time as there were the same kind of bugs in Software as there are today, such as using Word for Windows and it crashing on me, same as today with Word 2013.

So far this blog entry is quite useless, just adding not any good information to any cause.

Ok, here's what I want to say.

Google please kill Google+ as you did with so many Buzz tools before, it's waisting my life. Try to share a picture to your Mom without it being added to your already cluttered screen. Everytime I want to look at my circles I see people that I don't want to see, the suggestions come up every single time. And I though Facebook was bad! Are they so desperate to get people to link each other and try to convince the rest of the world that they need to join. So we all spend useless brain power to either try to identify the people they want us to put in circles or is there some socialising experiment running in trying to match up people? I don't know. What I know is that the really got it wrong and they have to fix it by killing the product. The focus on simplicity and excel!

I want photos, documents, all information possible. Including my circles. The idea of circles and visualising is perfect, but it was only a showcase is now completely gone. Why not have all messages visualised by your circles and let the nodes expand on topics and filter dynamically what you want continually follow.

But this blog, stream, lifeline style with the singular long almost endless list is not how my brain works. I need a tree a mind map with different roots, with immediate hiding, moving, dynamic reorganisation (yes using the circles or some form).

Cut some slack, get rid of the unnecessary and and simplify!

I want the circles to be my starring point, hovering over a whatever level of circle to see that items (can be person's) stories (or posts), but not anything else. Just give me the parallel thread or indicator of more and I will choose to hover over it or not to reveal more if I'm interested.

Same can be said of the photos. I have now 70'000 photos uploaded to G+ and I cannot really make use of it. Search is not working for me, and worst of all on my Nexus 7 there are more #AutoAwesome Movies than when using Chrome on my Mac?

Stop this madness now, as you have done before. Get new leadership, simplify and done.

G+ today is like twitter, Facebook and lots of others meshed together and I'm still held at bay in a form that I had hated 20 years ago.

Google has a lot of potential but it did not manage to get me personally to a different level of automation that I dream of. And it's seems it is like always, wait another 20 years and you'll see that there will be major breakthroughs, right? I say wrong. I would still prefer my Palm Pilot and that everyone is using it and I can just been information to anybody I care. (Can you believe that to this day humans still print little paper cards to exchange useless and outdated information! Happens to me every week).
